Autumn Horn, Blue Pines Counseling
Hi, I’m Autumn, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Training and Provisional Registered Art Therapist at Blue Pines Counseling. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Art Therapy from Edgewood College and recently graduated with a Master in Art Therapy with an Emphasis in Counseling from Mount Mary University.
As I continue to grow, nature becomes increasingly important in my daily life. Having lived near Lake Michigan all my life, water helps me connect with myself and the world around me. I am excited to integrate new ways of interacting with nature at the Sugar Maple Nature School!
I chose to become an art therapist because it has always been a way for me to be creative and self-expressive. Even as a child and teen, I used art to explore myself and my surroundings without realizing its therapeutic purpose. Using art as a therapeutic tool allows individuals to externalize their thoughts and feelings onto the art, rather than relying solely on traditional talk therapy.
My approach to therapy is integrative, client-centered, and strengths-based. I value the process over the product, often saying to “trust the process”! This means you don’t need to be an artist or “good” at art to participate. Instead, you can explore yourself through art, create meaning and purpose, and engage in conversations about process, strengths, and resilience
